Inspired Songs

Much has been said and heard about Indian music directors copying international songs. Check ou Inspired Indian Film Songs for more information on that. However, it is unusual to find the copying occur in the other direction. Check out Helen Abadzi's Blog for information about Greek songs inspired by Hindi songs.

That's quite interesting. Especially something like 'Jiya Ho'. However, my take on this is ... if it's good, go ahead and copy it instead of creating stinkers. I guess Indian music directors mantra is Imitation is the best form of flattery.

I agree with you...I don't think copying is necessarily bad. It definitely helps in broadening the audience. However, sometimes it clearly amounts to plagiarism and seems unfair that the original MD is not even credited (forget about getting paid) for it. However, considering that there are a large number of tunes to copy from, I guess it is not that easy to find/choose the right tune ;-)
